Prof. Mara Violato
Professor of Health Economics
Mara Violato is Professor of Health Economics at the University of Oxford. Mara’s research spans two main areas of health economics. First, she conducts economic evaluations, such as cost-effectiveness analyses alongside randomised controlled trials, to identify treatments and healthcare models that offer good value for money in financially constrained systems. Second, she investigates economic inequalities in health outcomes and healthcare use by analysing large survey and administrative datasets to inform fairer clinical and policy decisions. Her work is driven by a focus on improving equity and efficiency across healthcare. She is particularly interested in the economics of mental health - especially among children and young people - and in studying health-related quality of life in international surveys. Recently, she has developed an interest in behavioural economics.
