
Dr. Naho Morisaki
Department Head
Dr. Naho Morisaki is the Department Head of the Department of Social Medicine, at the National Center for Child Health and Development (NCCHD), Concurrent Head of the Women’s Health Promotion Research Office, Concurrent Deputy Head of the Strategic Support Office at the Think Tank for Children and Families, and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Life-course Health Policy at the University of Tokyo.
Research wise her main research focus has been on the social, cultural, and clinical determinants as well as the long-term effects of maternal and child health with special focus on nutrition and growth. Her work on low-birth-weight-births in Japan featured in Science led to amendment of the Japanese gestational weight guidelines. Through the COVID-pandemic she has expanded research to adolescents with special focus on children’s rights and mental health, and launched the nation-wide Japan Adolescent Survey. More recently due to social needs in Japan her focus has further expanded to unmet needs in women’s health, including but not limited to environmental factors related to menstrual disorders, menopausal disorders, and gender disparities in health. She has been involved in many mult-country collaborations including the WHO-Maternal and Child Survey, PREBIC(preterm birth international collaborative global), iNEO (international network for Evaluating Outcomes) and ROAM (reproductive outcomes and migration). She serves as editorial board member for Paediatric and Perinatal Epidemiology, Journal of Epidemiology, and Japanese Medical Association Journal.
